Security has always been a key issue with
computer technology. As technology changes on a day
to day basis, so does the need to keep your data and
information safe and secure. Installing a virus
scanner makes sure
your computer does not contain
any threats as of the date of installation. The
maintenance and updating of that virus protection
software is what keeps the threats out. If you
think you are safe because you bought Norton
Anti-Virus 5 years ago with your then new PC, you
are gravely mistaken. Even if you kept up on the new
virus definitions, the
software itself is out dated
and vulnerable to modern threats.
Unfortunately the criminals are always one step
ahead so aside from actually cutting off your
computers contact with public networks (i.e. the
internet), we will never be 100% effective against
threats. However we do know this, Criminal
Hackers are lazy and by keeping your system as safe
and secure as possible, you will get a 99.9%
security blanket. They prefer to creep through open
windows rather than burst through oak doors. If you
do not maintain an overall up-to-date security
system on your PC than your effective security is
greatly reduced and it's going to open windows for a
hacker.
There are many security measures a PC can be
configured for. It's not all about virus protection
software. Many other items require configuration
like firewalls, software updates, internet browsers,
routers, Bluetooth and more. By default, newly
installed items tend to operate at a medium level of
security if even turned on at all. This allows the
new users to have some security without requiring a
professional technician to actually do the
installation. If your computer is secured in the "as
is" way, you should consider a professional
check-up.
You should have your PC Professionally Secured at
least once, then follow up with check-ups every
6-12months. The best time to have your PC
Professionally Secured is either after a fresh
installation of your operating system, or before you
connect a new PC to the internet, or network.
Parental Controls are becoming more of a
necessity in the modern family home and if you
didn't know, you already have many of the tools
needed to protect your children on your PC now. Most
new internet browsers have some advanced parental
controls built right in, you just have to activate
and configure them accordingly to maximize the
potential and minimize hassle. Operating systems
also have certain measure's to keep children from
installing software without parent approval, (i.e.
Mature Rated Video Games, Chat Room software,
Peer-to-peer networks which give access to illegal
content and adult content.)
If you have any concerns about the security and
safety of your technology, just give us a call and
we can evaluate your needs and provide you with
professional security services.
